Free And Cheap Things To Do In Las Vegas

FREE STUFF

Ok. You've clicked on the links and should have a pretty good idea of the variety of free or cheap things to do in Vegas.  My friends ask me how I can go to Las Vegas and stay a week on my salary.  Well if I sat behind a machine or at a table for 16 hours a day I couldn't.  House advantage would eventually get me.  And anyhow don't forget, you're on vacation.  The neat thing about a Vegas vacation vs. a Disney World vacation is that for the same amount of money you could sit in that chair in Vegas that has a $10,000 dollar envelope taped under it.  I believe every casino has that chair.  You just got to keep moving until you find it. Lady  Luck is a shadow that is in constant motion.

So how do I play for a week on a budget?  I take breaks.  I find free or cheap stuff and disconnect from gambling for a bit.    I have been to Hoover Dam, I've rode the deuce from terminal to terminal and I've seen some great shows.  If you are only staying a couple of days I suggest you get your tickets and schedule what you're doing in advance.  Time flies, so be selective in your choices of food, shows and fun.  If you don't plan you'll leave with a list of didn't do's.  That's ok..just plan ahead and throw the plans away when you get there.  Here's a couple of links that might be helpful.

FREE TRANSPORTATION or almost free

THE DEUCE

When you clicked on the deuce link on my home page you found what I consider the best transportation deal in Vegas.  For two bucks you can get on the big double decker bus called the deuce(see my link for more info) and you can go from Mandalay Bay   to downtown Vegas and for 5 bucks you get a 24 hour pass.  Tip. You pay the driver and must have the correct change.  I like the upper deck in the front seat.  It's like driving a Big Harley down the strip.  Remember this is a break.  If you are in a HURRY take a cab as the deuce does make numerous stops.

SHUTTLES, TRAMS AND MONORAILS

The shuttles I most like are the free Rio shuttle and free Sam's Town shuttle.  Both can be boarded at Harrahs'.  Tip.  You must walk through the casino, pass the check in desk, go out the revolving doors into Harrahs' parking lot.  The valet will gladly direct you to the boarding point.  Go to Rio's after 4 p.m. and watch the sky parade.  It's free.  Catch some beads.  Even ride in one of the floats if you want to.  Another way to rest your dogs and get from point to point is ride the monorail.   The monorail between MGM and the Sahara is a great money saver but remember, there are no restrooms. There were a few problems at first but they've got the bugs worked out now. I would still empty the kidneys before I got on. For more information about free transportation click here

MY FAVORITE FREEBIES

The white tigers at the Mirage, and the white sharks at Mandalay bay. The worlds largest coke bottle. There are things and sights that I go back to every time I get to Vegas. But you should make your own never forget Las Vegas Moments while breaking from the action.

The sunrise and sunset.  Yep It's free. Tip.  When you check in ask for a room that overlooks the mountains.                                                                                                                                            Eat the largest hot dog at Slots of Fun next to Circus Circus.  Tip.  Be patient, there will be a line.                                                                                                                                                            Walk through Caesar's forum shops.   Free if you don't take your money or have a strong will. Tip.  Watch the fountain sculptures come to life.                                                                                       The Fremont Street Experience.  The free light show is awesome   Tip.  Don't go until the sun is down. Why?  Neon.
Gaze upon the Eiffel Tower. Paris Las Vegas opened in September 1999. The Eiffel Tower has legs rooted in the hotel’s giant casino and stretches 50 stories into the Nevada sky.
It's free to gaze, but if you’d like to take the hair-raising “Eiffel Tower Experience” ride to the 50th story, it will cost you $9 to $12 per adult depending on day of the week.
Gondola watching at The Venetian. Watching is free but the ride is 15 bucks per adult.
New York City. New York, New York Hotel & Casino opened in 1997.  This is what started it for me.  I love New York, New York, especially the Coney Island-style roller coaster that does loop-the-loops in front of skyscrapers.
The dancing fountains of Bellagio.  Very cool and very free.
The flaming volcano at the Mirage. Every 15 minutes from 7 p.m. to midnight, the Mirage’s volcano erupts only a few steps from Las Vegas Boulevard, sending fire 100 feet into the sky.
The Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo Las Vegas.  This is not that bad, especially if you look for Bugsy while you're there.                                                                                                                         THE SPORTS BET AREAS.   Most casinos have a sports bar.  The neat thing is that there are seats in this area to sit in and bet on horses, baseball, basketball or whatever you can imagine.  So go to the window and place a two dollar bet on a long shot, sit down, get a drink (the waitresses work this area too) and relax.  Who knows.  A 90 to 1 might come in and you get to sit and relax while you rake in the money.  I like to bet on the superbowl even if it's February.  You will get some pretty good odds and if you win you can send for your money.
